Geopolitics is Local – Ramifications of Chinese Projects for Human Security in Serbia

Vuk VuksanovićThis research was conducted in three cities in Serbia with large investments of the People's Republic of China - in Smederevo, Bor and Zrenjanin, in order to establish the impact of these projects on human security, i.e. the quality of life of people in these areas. In that regard, several aspects of endangering human security were observed: challenges to the environment, public health, socio-economic rights, human rights and the rule of law, as well as the use of new technologies. Consideration of the positive and negative consequences of Chinese investments was possible on the basis of field research and interviews with the residents of Bor, Smederevo and Zrenjanin, as well as experts in the field of environmental protection and human rights.
